Part 1 – Brains, bones and babies.
Vitamin D is VITAL for good health.
It is important for brain health, thyroid health, a strong immune system and bone health.
Studies have shown that pregnant women who are low in Vitamin D go on to have babies with a lower bone density than normal, so any women planning a pregnancy should check their levels pre-conception in order to optimise their levels before trying. For women already pregnant, it’s not too late – get your levels checked and if they are low, start supplementing straight away.
Vitamin D is made essentially from the sun. When you and I were primitive men and women we spent hours outside wearing not very much and so we got a tonne of the stuff! Today we are mostly fully dressed and indoors and thus Vitamin D insufficiency has become widespread.
It is certainly worth checking your Vitamin D level once a year.
In order to best absorb Vitamin D, it is advisable to also take magnesium which also a multitasker.
Look out next week for Part 2 where I discuss even more benefits of Vitamin D!
Wishing you all health and happiness!
