As the season changes, so too do our health needs.
Early autumn is actually a great time to do a gentle detox and reset.
In no particular order here are some of my tips for Autumn:
- Try a week or two without sugar and introduce some nourishing soups as a welcome reset for the body. Autumn is harvest time and it is the perfect opportunity to eat with the seasons: squashes, mushrooms, apples, nuts, carrots, pears, brassicas and more are ready now.
- Keep the body warm by using cayenne, nutmeg, cinnamon and chilies.
- As the days shorten and the temperature drops, this can also be a time when our mood is affected. This is the time to maintain or indeed develop a positive attitude. Autumn still gives us some glorious days of sun and the colours are stunning. I always encourage you to get outside, whatever the weather. Wrap up and walk. Foraging is becoming evermore popular – consider signing up for a day of foraging in your area.
- Autumn is also the perfect time to get the body prepared and resilient for winter.
Start supplementing with Vitamin D and Magnesium as a minimum.
- Tinctures such as Astragalus and Echinacea boost the immune system.
- Herbal teas are wonderfully healing. Mullein tea has traditionally been used to support the lungs.
- Use natural supplements such as garlic, ginger, oregano and thyme in your food. These will all naturally boost your immunity.
- Open the windows for at least a few minutes every day and let the fresh air in.
- Try using a diffuser in the home with good quality essential oils which have natural anti-viral properties (I love Doterra brand and their oils On Guard and Air are both excellent)
Wishing you health and happiness,
